The short version
Journey Cam collects nothing and transmits nothing. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Your recordings stay in the app's own storage on this device until you delete them or export them yourself.
One exception: buying the unlock goes through Apple, so the purchase screen contacts the App Store, as any purchase must. Nothing else in the app contacts anything.
What the App uses on your device, and why
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To record video | Written to the app's own storage |
| Location (While Using the App) | Speed, coordinates, heading and altitude on the overlay | Drawn onto the video; never sent anywhere |
| Microphone (only if you turn audio on) | To record sound with the video | Written to the app's own storage |
If audio is off — the default — the App never requests microphone access at all. If you deny location, the App still records and the location-based readings simply show --.
The App never asks for Local Network access, never asks for tracking permission, never touches the advertising identifier, and never asks for "Always" location. It contains no third-party code and no networking code, so a recording or a coordinate cannot be uploaded anywhere.
None of this data is profiled, aggregated, sold, or shared.
Recording only happens in the foreground
iOS does not permit camera capture in the background, and the App does not attempt it. If you leave the App, lock the phone, or a call arrives, recording stops and the file is saved. While the App is in the background it releases the camera and stops using location entirely.
Storage
Recordings live inside the app's container and are excluded from iCloud backup. Deleting a recording removes it from the device; deleting the App deletes all of them. The App is not a backup service — keep your own copies of anything that matters.
Sharing is yours to initiate
Nothing leaves the device unless you export or share it. When you do, it leaves this app's control and is governed by wherever you sent it. Note that an exported video has the overlay burned into the picture, including coordinates, so a file you share shows where you were and when.
What you record is your responsibility
This app records whatever the camera is pointed at, which may include other people and places that are not yours. What you may record, and what you may then do with it, is governed by rules that differ from place to place. Finding out what applies to you and following it is your responsibility alone.
Children
The App is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this document changes materially, the new version is presented in the App and requires your acceptance before continued use.
